Lanxin High Speed Railway

2013-10-19

The Lanxin High Speed Railway (also known as the second double line of the Lanxin Railway or Lanxin Passenger Dedicated Line) is a high-speed railway passenger dedicated line currently in operation in China. It is the world's longest high-speed railway with a total length of 1776 kilometers, starting from Lanzhou in the east, passing through Xining, and ending in Urumqi in the west. It is the first national railway level I double line electrified fast railway in northwest China, with a designed maximum speed of 250 kilometers per hour for passenger trains (with further acceleration conditions reserved for the Lanzhou Xining section and Hami Urumqi section). Compared with the original trains entering and exiting Xinjiang, the travel time between Xinjiang and the mainland is significantly shortened as a result. It is an important part of Gansu Railway, Qinghai Railway, and Xinjiang Railway.

The completion of the Lanxin High Speed Railway has created an all-weather, high-capacity high-speed railway passenger transportation channel between Xinjiang and the mainland, greatly reducing travel time. It is the first high-speed railway built in the high-altitude and windy sand region of northwest China, and has accumulated valuable exploration experience for the development of fast rail and high-speed rail in this type of region.
